Farzi is a 2023 Hindi language crime thriller and fake television series co-directed by Raj & Denmark. You also co-wrote the series with Sita Menon and Suman Kumar. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna and Bhuvan Arora. Farzi shares suite with Raj & DK's The Family Man thriller series. Originally conceived as a film in 2014, Farzi was expanded into a TV series in 2019.Filming began in July 2021 in Mumbai.

Filming also took place in Alibaug, Goa, Nepal and Jordan. The songs were composed by Sachin-Jigar and Tanishk Bagchi, the soundtrack is by Ketan Sodha. The eight-episode series was released on February 10, 2023 on Amazon Prime Video.

After two successful seasons of The Family Man, there has been interest and curiosity as to what directors Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru will be doing. So far, her film and television work has been unpredictable. W Farzi stars an amazing cast of Amol Palekar, Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi and Kay Kay Menon who provide good reasons to see him.

The topic is unusual, but also a bit dry.

The pursuit of terrorists and various enemies of the country is much more exciting than a fake operation, so the eight-part series should be filled with family drama and emotional twists.

As a child, Sunny (Shahid Kapoor) was abandoned by his father and grew up with his grandfather (Amol Palekar), best friend Firoz (Bhuvan Arora) and family friend Yasir (Chittaranjan Giri). Grandfather runs the newspaper Kranti Patrika, which nobody reads but which gives him a meaning in life. Sunny is an accomplished artist, but she has to make ends meet by selling paintings to dumb dealers on the street. Then the printing company is threatened with closure due to debt and Sunny has the bright idea to use her artistic talents, Firoz and Yasir's printing skills to produce counterfeit banknotes. Meanwhile, freelance police officer Michael (Vijay Sethupathi) sets out to stop counterfeit money circulating around the country and finds a forever kindred spirit, Reserve Bank employee Megha (Raashii Khanna), the has the technical know-how to detect counterfeits and wants to be part of a special working group, ill-fated acronym CCFART, set up to catch counterfeiters. The man behind this case is Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon), who runs a residence in Jordan.

Megha helped create a machine and app that detects counterfeit bills, but Sunny's bills are so good they bypass gadgets. It's only a matter of time before Mansoor finds and recruits Sunny and Firoz to take notes for him. He charms Sunny by paying for his grandfather's brain surgery, and after a while, when the needs are met, greed takes over. While the plot (co-written by Raj, DK, Sita R Menon, Suman Kumar) stays in the thriller zone, there are great sequences like Michael's Hawkeye escape and the team to smuggle a huge amount of currency into India - they use a real accident involving a ship en route to the Alang landfill that ran aground on Juhu Beach (northwest of Mumbai).

But the show keeps derailing, moving on to Michael's troubled marriage to Rekha (Regina Cassandra) and estrangement from his nerdy son, who he wants to "turn into a man." There's also a lazy plot comfort in that Sunny woos Megha slightly so she can keep track of what the task force is up to. Hour-long episodes range from adrenaline rush to yawning. Each time Vijay Sethupathi and Kay Kay Menon appear on screen, the series gets bigger.

Michael feels the anger and evil spirit of the hero who blackmails the minister (Zakir Hussain) to get what he wants while Mansoor hilariously steps in with demands and "Vincent Van Goog" 039; on his wall. It's hard to feel sorry for Sunny, who doesn't even have an excuse for being a true anti-establishment man to get into crime.

It is strange that an educated citizen with artistic ambitions should speak like a Tapori.

While the other cast members sink into their roles, Shahid Kapoor's performance is too much "look at me, I'm a star" until the final episode, where he pulls himself together and captures the nuance needed.

Hopefully the next season 2 will put his talent to the test.
